October Sky

In the movie "October Sky", Homer and a couple of his friends were trying to build rockets. In order to do this, they had to cooperate very well. They later decided to enter the rockets into a science fair. However, Homer's dad works in the coal mines and expects his younger son to do the same. Meanwhile, Homer's older brother is going to college on a football scholarship. Homer's dad does not think that someone who lives in his town should go to college on an educational scholarship. Therefore, he does not support Homer while he is building the rockets. While presenting a rocket to a few of their classmates and friends, a rocket goes missing. A forest fire starts and a rocket is found near where the fire started. The boys are blamed for this fire. However, they use math to prove they are innocent. They calculate where the actual rocket landed and find the rocket. They show everyone their evidence and are proven innocent. Then, when his father gets in an accident in the mines, Homer takes over his father's job and quits school. Later, he quits the coal mines and goes back to his dream of winning the science fair. He and his friends win the community fair and go on to nationals. At the national fair on judging day, someone steals the rocket exhibit that Homer and his friends made. Luckily, he makes another one just in time. He also wins that science fair. This finally makes his father proud of him. At this point, his father respects Homer and his dreams. He also feels empathy for Homer in a way, because though he has never made a rocket, or experienced something like that, he understands how Homer must have felt the whole time that he was going through this. I personally thought that this was a good movie with a good moral; keep reaching for your dreams, no matter how far away they seem and no matter who is trying to stop you.
