Extraterrestrial life?(Science)

Who: Scientists working for NASA, Alan Boss, an astronomer from Carnegie Institution, researcher from the University of Edinburgh, Duncan Forgan, and many other scientists.

What: They are recently saying there are chances of other life in our galaxy, the Milky Way. There are lots of Earth-like planets out there circling stars like our sun outside of our solar system. Members of the Kepler Science Council are also planning to launch a search for other Earth-like planets that may contain intelligent life. However, the life we find may be at a different time period than we are. Alan Boss says, "Chances are, if you do happen to find a planet which is going to have intelligent life, it's not going to be in [the same] phase of us. It may have formed a billion years ago, or maybe it's not going to form for another billion years." Many questions are still left unanswered. Even if there is other life, it would take at least 100,000 years to reach the nearest star outside our planet, even if we used the fasted space shuttle we have on earth. This means we won't get company from life outside of the Earth for a while!

When: The search for Earth-like planets will be ending in 2013, and until then, there isn't much information.

Where: The Milky Way, mostly near to where our planet is.

Why: This is to explore and find out about planets that may have life. We need to know if our planet may be in future danger from outside life, or if we have friendly neighbors living billions of miles away.

Opinion: I think this is an exciting thing to explore. It would be very cool if there was other friendly life out there. Maybe they have a solution for global warming, or other problems we may have. If these other creatures out there are not friendly, that could be a problem. If they are mean, let's just hope they are less advanced than us. If they are willing to help us, I hope scientists allow them to. This is rally cool and I wish there is other life out there. To read more, click here!
